ST VINCENT DISTILLERS, manufactuerers of St Vincent Very Strong Rum among other products, has made a breakthrough on the international market. Last Thursday, October 12, the company exported its first shipment of Sunset Light Rum, Sunset Extra Rum, and Strong Rum to Baltimore, USA. From there, the overseas representative Malcolm Atherton of Wast Indian Spirits which is based in Utah, will be distributing the products to other States in the US including New York and New Jersey. St Vincent Distillers , formerly owned by government, was sold to CK Greaves two years ago, and its managing director Ken Greaves sees this breakthrough as a big step. "Hopefully, it will lead to an increase in sales and production," Greaves told SEARCHLIGHT. He said the company, which employs 27, has been trying to get into the US market for over a year. It received approval for license from the US Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms last year and spent the last several months working on its labels and other requirements. A total of 1,100 cases make up this first shipment which represents the "first big breakthrough" for St. Vincent Distillers. Greaves said that are also looking to get into the Canadian market and, at some stage the regional market. The company had previously sold its products only on the local market.
